The MASH will again be held at the Suburban Collection Showplace at the Michigan State Fair in Novi Michigan on August 28th through Sept 1st, 2025. The Suburban Collection Showcase is fully air conditioned for man, woman and beast and is a marvelous experience for all. Entries must be made to both the Michigan State Fair and the Midwest Highland Cattle Association no later than August 1st.
NEW THIS YEAR: We will be doing entries for MASH much as we do entries for the UP State Fair. You will make entries and payments to the MSF (recommend the online entry location https://michigan.fairwire.com/ ) and to the MWHCA on separate forms. You must also make separate online entries for MASH Junior entries, (not to be confused with the Michigan State Fair Youth Show.)
If you have very young calves that qualify for Class 0 or class 19, (born on or after May 1st)or two year old heifers that qualify for Class 9A, (born 1/1-8/31/2023) you will not enter those on at the Michigan State Fair. Do make sure to enter them on the MASH entry form however. These are “special” classes as far as the Michigan State Fair is concerned and they do not pay premiums for these two classes. However, the MWHCA does pay the premiums for these classes. Make sure to enter on the MWHCA entry forms.
Entries to the MASH Open Show must be made directly to the Midwest Highland Cattle Association on forms downloaded from www.midwesthighlands.org and emailed or mailed to be received no later than August 1st. These may be emailed to Pat@midwesthighlands.org or mailed to: MWHCA c/o Pat White 1680 West Santee Hwy.Charlotte MI 48813 If sent Overnight Delivery you must check NO SIGNATURE REQUIRED.
2. Entries are made directly to the Michigan State Fair to include
· Highland open entries (except calves born May 1st 2025 or later,or 2 year old heifers born 1/1-8/31/23- see below.)
· The Youth Show (including Showmanship) ,that follows the Highland MASH Show, is open only to Michigan youth. Michigan Youth may enter Sovereign cattle in AOR-percentage as long as the Sovereign is registered in the youth’s name. Michigan Youth may enter Youth Showmanship and are not required to own their own cattle.
· Parking and Exhibitor passes.
· Sovereigns may be shown in All Other Registered Breeds (AOR) (Percentage) during the Open show on Saturday.
· Sovereigns may be shown in All Other Registered Breeds (AOR) (Percentage) during the MSF Junior Show on Friday if they are owned and papered to the Junior.
3. MASH Junior entries for Jr Breeding Heifer and Showmanship will be made at
· https://forms.gle/g4fYB4aPY4Xcs2aA6 Open to Junior members of the MWHCA
· Ownership of the Heifer is not required for the Junior
· Bulls less than 12 months of age may be shown in showmanship class only.
Entries Must be received by everybody no later than August 1st whether by mail or email. This is the final entry time. We recommend you plan on getting entries in by July 25th.
The State Fair Michigan Youth Show is on Friday and follows the MASH Show (which includes our own Junior show. ) This includes AOR (percentage) if you want to show a Sovereign and Showmanship. Unfortunately, this is only open for Michigan youth. There are no additional animal entry fees to enter the Youth Show, but you must include both a 15.00 open exhibitor fee and a 15.00 youth Exhibitor Fee.
Remember that Sovereigns will not count towards the ROE Point Show total points as these are not a part of the Highland show. They do count towards your farm and individual entries (no more than 8 total entries per family unit, no more than two animals per class).
You are required to purchase an open exhibitor pass for 15.00 at the time of entry. We recommend you also purchase a parking pass (good for the entire length of the fair) and as many helper passes as necessary for all individuals associated with your farm when you submit your entries.
Don’t forget to purchase an ad in the full color show book. This helps defray expenses for our magnificent awards presented to the exhibitors.
Remember that Michigan cattle require an RFID tag as official identification. Out-of-state cattle require any official ID which may include either an RFID tag, a silver BRITE tag or an orange Bangs tag, plus an interstate health certificate (CVI-Certificate of Veterinary Inspection.)
*The Michigan State Fair requires original registration papers in hand for both Highlands and Sovereigns. No exceptions.*
Cattle should arrive Wednesday, Aug 27th between 9am and 9pm or Thursday August 28th 6am-3 pm. All cattle must be on the grounds by 3 pm Thursday, August 29th, and are released at 3 pm Monday, September 1st.
